Should I continue DTN?
«

Hey guys,
So, as many of you are aware, I've been most off the map for some time around here. I am still following every post that is made here, but I've only been visiting when new posts are made and haven't been personally contributing for some time.
My question is, should I bother to continue with DTN, or shut the site down? It seems to me there are only 2 users actually coming here. Hardly seems worth it to keep it operational for 2 users.
So this is my call out. If you guys want the site to continue, let's get some activity going here. I just don't have the time these days to actively pursue promotion of the site myself, and if it continues as it is, I just can't see keeping it running.
Cheers,
db

I have an idea on how to keep the site busy, just post at least one picture of everything you make, and every that you have already made but don't have on the site.

In reality, what this site needs is at least a couple dozen active members. Having two active members does not really make for a healthy, prosperous community. But unless people magically start showing up here, I just can't see it happening any time soon. I've got no time to promote this site myself these days, and I'm not even sure there are enough people interested in making stuff from duct tape AND talking about it on a forum. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but I don't know if there's a big enough base to support a forum like this.
'Spose we'll see. I still have a bit of time before the domain runs out.

Hi, I just found this place and was crushed to see you want to close it down! I have learned so much from this site and feel it's the best informative place I have seen. As you can tell, I'm new to duct tape, only 3 weeks ago, but have already made a few things and want to try the portrait next. Your hard work is appreciated......

Well that kind of thing is always appreciated.
Here's the reality though: The big question is whether you'll be here, contributing, and helping build this site in a month, three months, six months, etc. That's what this site needs. If we don't see some more active membership, I'm really not sure I can justify the cost of maintaining this site. I make nothing (literally nothing) running this site, and all costs associated are personal expenses. I don't mind doing that if more than two or three people are actively using the place, but I just can't see doing it if this isn't the case.
I hope that doesn't sound like I'm "threatening you guys that I'm going to shut down the site". It's just the reality, and I thought I'd keep the few people who actually come here informed.

DB,
I just found this forum and I think it's great. However, I completely understand that it needs to be worth the effort to continue with it. I've posted a few projects and will continue to do so as time permits.
But of course in the end it's important that you do what's right for you. It sounds like this forum is primarily a hobby for you. And hobbies are only fun if you find them worthwhile.
God Bless!

For the time being, this site is going to remain operational. It's good to see that new members have found the place and are enjoying it.

Well, here it is a couple years later... site's still running.
That is largely as a result of the efforts of whoismezero to keep this place managed. My thanks to him for his contribution.
I've got no plans to shut the place down so long as people continue to enjoy the place which, it seems, is still happening, albeit at a pretty slow pace.
Cheers,
